Geophysical prospecting in Belgium: seeing the subsoil without digging


Based in the province of Luxembourg, Prospection Lab conducts geophysical surveys throughout Belgium, France, and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. Our mission: to reveal what lies beneath your feet—remains, networks, tanks, or cavities—without lifting a single shovel.

Each site presents a different question, and no single method is sufficient to answer it. We therefore combine five complementary techniques: ground-penetrating radar (GPR), which precisely maps buried structures; magnetometers, highly effective for locating furnaces, filled ditches, and ferrous masses; resistivity meters, which distinguish walls, embankments, and geological layers based on the electrical resistance of the soil; electromagnetic induction (EMI), ideal for rapidly covering large areas; and seismic surveys, which provide information on the deep structure of the ground.

Our services are aimed at three main groups. Archaeologists and heritage managers: we conduct surveys of plots, sites, and the areas surrounding monuments prior to excavation, to target soundings in a completely non-destructive manner. Construction and civil engineering professionals: we detect buried networks before earthworks, locate tanks and cisterns, and search for cavities or unexploded ordnance (UXO) before construction begins. Finally, private individuals: we help them locate an old well, a septic tank, a walled-up cellar, or a tank whose location has been lost.
